Jaguars on the Island Prowl
Kitty Owners Take to the Water
Your JOTI Committee is pleased to announce a JAGUAR PROWL immediately following JOTI this year. On Tuesday July 31st we will drive in convoy to Gold River a small community near the eastern terminus of Nootka Sound on the west (Pacific) side of Vancouver Island where next day we will board the MV Uchuck III for a leisurely journey west through the Sound to the community of Yuquot (Friendly Cove) on the Pacific coast. After exploring we will reboard and return to Gold River. This is the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth (“all along the mountains”) people, who have lived here for many thousands of years.
The MV Uchuck III is a WWII mine sweeper, made from wood. It has been converted to a cargo ship with capacity for 100 guests. It is well maintained, and sails these waters daily. There is a cafeteria on board for lunch. Go to: www.getwest.ca/contact/ for information or call 1 877 824-8253, and to make a reservation for August 1st. Make sure to watch the video that is centered on their web page.
Accommodation in Gold River. There are two hotels/motels in Gold River. The event hotel is Gold River Chalet www.goldriverchalet.com/ or by phone 1 866 450-2688 or 250 283-2688. We have blocked rooms here for July 31st and Aug 1st., but it is imperative that you reserve ASAP. Advise that it’s for Jaguar Club of Victoria or use my name, Terry Sturgeon. There is no special rate, but the room cost is very reasonable. The second hotel is the Ridgeview Motor Inn at: www.ridgeview-inn.com/ and you are invited to stay here if you wish. Everything is close in Gold River.
This event is open to all participants in JOTI, and to all JCNA club members and their guests. There is no formal registration but please advise me that you are coming and of the number of guests at: firstname.lastname@example.org preferably, or 250 370-2299 (Victoria). Questions and comments to the same.
